so the nice folks at FCKH8.com decided to take this comic and put it in rainbow font and put their name on it without any source or indication that they didn’t create it. when questioned about crediting the artist, they got pretty sassy and have refused to do anything other than say “we’re looking up the artist” when you can find them by a quick google search of the first line of the poem. fun, right?
No.
First off, not everyone is competent at google-fu. They say they’re trying to contact the person, they’re trying to contact them.
Second, “trying to contact” can cover lots of ground. As in, includes “we know who it is, someone in our group has emailed them, but the person writing on FB maybe doesn’t know who it is/ if they’re allowed to credit them because of whatever the fuck reason. Let’s quit tearing down our own, people.Hi, I’m actually the original artist in question.
No one at FCKH8 contacted me at all via email, Facebook, Tumblr, DeviantArt, or any of the other various websites where the comic has been posted by me. From what I can tell, no attempt at contact was made prior to posting the design on their Facebook without credit to me.
Second, if “google-fu” includes typing a few lines of poem into an automatic search engine to find the original source before ripping the design and using it for yourself because you happen to be a pretty influential clothing company in the LGBT community, I would hope that a few would be proficient in it.

Actually, it’s probably because society sees one gay archetype, negatively stigmatizes it, and assigns those behaviors and characteristics to all gay people. Oh and then there’s always the fun infighting where some gay people think they’re better than other gay people because they aren’t the “BAD kind of gay” (god forbid).
